On Tuesday, April 6ththe League of Tigers before and after school group at Irving Middle School had a guest speaker join them to discuss journalism.  Mr. Nolen, a sixth grade math teacher at Irving, helped arrange the meeting with Keristen Holmes, a news anchor from Sacramento, California.

Keristen Holmes grew up in a low-income area of Little Rock, Arkansas. Keristen was inspired to be a newscaster when she saw a beautiful black woman report the news for the first time when she was in middle school.  She decided to work hard and became the first person in her family to go to college so she can pursue her dream of becoming a news anchor. Keristen encouraged the Irving students to follow their dreams to be whatever they set their minds to.

Keristen was very joyful and fun to talk with. She enjoyed the conversations and laughing with the students as she discussed her life as a news anchor.
